NetWare Server Build Checklist

  • Recommended Patches applied
  • Bios set for NetWare
  • SLP Scope list configured
  • sys/etc/slp.cfg configured
  • timesync configured (type and consistent port)
  • Server type settings – edir, groupwise, file/print server settings
  • Needed/appropriate replicas
  • Verification steps, based on server type.
  • Scheduling of maintenance (dibs, trustees, repairs, backups, Anti-virus).
  • If multi-NIC
    • ensure NCP exclude
    • ensure SLP exclude
  • Use scsihd.cdm instead of cpqhd.cdm
  • ensure SAN card can see enough LUNs - see TID 3845254
  • Configure nwmkde.nlm to only take 20 mb, otherwise it often grows to hundreds of MBs of memory
    • modify the sys:\system\bti.cfg, find or add this CacheSize=1024 | change to CacheSize=20480 per TID 10053197
  • For GroupWise volumes, turn auto purge ON
  • load config.nlm /all on new server and compare to standardized/baselined server.
  • IF gig NIC, set to auto and confirm switch is set to hard set 1000/FD so NW will auto to 1000. Verify this in monitor | lan drivers | tab | scroll down to speed/duplex settings and ensure speed is 1000

  1. If using profiles ensure uphclean is installed as a service on ALL workstations.

Linux Server Build Check list

  1. Configure NTP
    1. rcntp status
    2. chkconfig ntp on
      1. Troubleshooting
        1. rcntp stop
        2. ntpdate time.novell.com (should show correct updated time)
        3. date
        4. rcntp start
  2. Configure 2nd nic - if using Heart Beat
  3. Configure SAN
    1. multipath -ll
    2. cat /proc/partitions
  4. If using heart beat and groupwise, ensure you have the "Heartbeat aware" GroupWise script in the /usr/lib/ocf/resource.d/novell/GroupWise file.
  5. Disable SuSE firewall for internal servers. Or be aware that some services may not go through.
  6. Disable apparmor for internal servers.
  7. If eDirectory, ensure the eDir DB cache is hard set. About 1.5 X the size of the DIB.

  1. Configure the Java heap size to 256 instead of the default 32mb. sys/etc/java.cfg on NW
  2. Export drivers as a backup
