Setup Instructions

Verify Preliminary Setup

a. Make sure that your Mobility Pack server is up and running and you have the following information:

I. Server Address

II. Port

1. Whether the server requires a secure connection or not

III. Username and Password that is setup on the server

b.Make sure that you've done the initial setup on the device meaning that you've created a Palm Profile and the phone is ready to use. You should be at the home screen with the quick launch bar at the bottom with icons of an envelope, calendar, phone etc.

Account Setup

1. From the quick launch bar tap on the envelope

Note: When there's no email account setup on the device: After you tap the envelope it will take you to an “Add an Account” screen where it'll ask for an email address and password. This e-mail needs to be the username that you've set up on your Mobility Pack server with the appropriate password.

When there's already an email account setup on the device: After you tap the envelope it will take you to the account currently set up on the device. By tapping on “Email” in the top left hand corner of the screen then "Preferences and Accounts” you will then be able to tap “Add An Account” if you wish to add a second account. Then you'll go through the same set up process described below.

2. Enter the username and password that are setup on the server. It will try to auto-detect which kind of email account it is (i.e. Exchange, gmail, etc.) . Generally from our testing when it's an exchange account it won't auto-detect it and it will then give you an option for “Manual Setup”.

Note: If you just want to go straight to “Manual Setup” tap the “Email” in the top left hand corner of the screen and then tap “Manual Setup” on the “Add an Account” screen.

3. In "Manual Setup"

1. Select the mail type. The options are IMAP, POP, Exchange (EAS), Gmail, Yahoo)
2. Enter the email address on the server (you will need the @ with the domain name: i.e. @novell.com)
3. Enter the incoming mail server. When it's an exchange account, after you select mail type: Exchange the incoming mail server will auto-populate with https://. You WILL need the https:// before your server address. If it's a secure connection (port 443) then you'll need to keep the “s” of “https” but if you're using an unsecure connection (port 80), the “s” of “http” will need to be removed leaving you with “http://”. After the “https://” or “http://” you enter the IP address of your Mobility Pack server.
4. You do not need a domain (as far as our testing has shown)
5. Enter the Mobility Pack server username and password
6. Tap "Sign-In"

4. To change how often your device syncs with the server and how many days back to sync go to “Email” in the top left hand corner>Prefereneces and Accounts>tap the account>scroll to the “Sync” section.

SSL Considerations

• If you get certificate errors when trying to connect to Mobility Connector or after upgrading your connector you will need to accept a cert. you can get your cert by browsing to the mobility connector address and the browser will prompt you to accept the certificate. You may need to restart your Pre for the certificate to fully register with the email client. If you still receive the cert error, delete any existing mobility certs by opening your Launcher, go to Device Info, scroll down to More Info, open Preferences menu and choose Certificate Manager.

How to configure your mobility server to use a self-signed cert for testing purposes

Email

• Email sent from the device to recipients outside of your own system do not contain a FROM address
• Shared folder content does not appear on the Pre
• Messages sent inside the company show the 'domain' in the brackets eg. <domain.com user@domain.com>

• Contact groups are aggregated, groups are not displayed.

• Does not support "anniversary" on a contact.

• Does not support creating distributed appointments, but still it can received them.

Kill Pill - correctly factory resets device to defaults.

Device Security Policy - When an administrator adds, removes, or changes a password security policy, you may have to remove and re-add and the account for the changes to apply. The device will no longer sync if the account is not removed.
