RSS Text Feed
I think we need a feed for NOA updates. Simple text-based feed for things like "Ogg is coming," and, "Yes, it was kind of lame that I said, 'compelling desktop experience' in an interview. Jeez! It was my first show." Okay, that second one was maybe more of a personal blog entry than a news item, but there would be other show-related news coming up between shows that could be fed to the feed. Oh, you get the idea.
NOA Logos
I want to put the NOA logos on a page in various formats that people can use. There are a bunch of things I am exploring:
- NOA Web banners of various sizes, with sample HTML code for banner. Maybe even some code that allows people linking to us to get a modest amount of referral points in Cool Communities. NOA affliate program?
- License the logo under a Creative Commons Attribution, No commercial
- Sources: make both GIMP and Illustrator sources available
- Set up a Cool Solutions wiki page where people can post the derivatives. Maybe if one shows up that outcools the current one, we adopt it. That would take a lot of community push though...I think the one we have is pretty dang cool. (A lot lot cooler than I expected we could pull off. I think something has really changed about Novell marketing.)
NUG/LUG Shout Outs
Feature NUG/LUGs in the pre-music show opening. That is, have them send in an audio file that we can use to promote their user group.
- Link to Audacity
- Acceptable formats
- Suggested bit rate
- Suggested sample rate
- Upload from the page
Guest Bios
This one came from community suggestion. We need a page that has a picture and bio of each guest we have on NOA. Apparently people want to see faces... Each name should be hash-linked so that we can link to them directly from each show's details page. I'd like to get have many bio's include the individual's personal and professional links (blogs, personal homepage, etc.)
Since the guests so far have been Novell employeees you should be able to quickly pull their pictures from eGuide. The drawback there is that some folks aren't necessarily too fond of their employee "badge" photo. Maybe use those pictures as a placeholder until you get current pictures. Tie the new pictures together with a common theme or item(s). Maybe the guests could hold a cowbell and a drumstick?
Sister Shows
One of my colleagues in Brazil contacted me and asked I would mind if he did a version in Portuguese. That would be cool, even if they only had capacity to do just the very best of our shows. How cool would that be to have interpretations in countries around the world. They could finally listen to the show in Scottland!
Transcripts
- Online transcripts would make the show content searchable.
- If we did this, it would probably be housed on the Cool Solutions wiki so that reader-listeners can make corrections.
- Some have suggested we outsourced the transcription. I'm not sure that my shoelace is that long, but I'm going to look into it.
Listener Resources
List of various RSS newsreaders and podcast clients with:
- user ratings (cowbells instead of stars)
- user reviews
- download links
Survey Says
Location to list the current survey as well as an archive past survey results.
Could also list the first survey winner. With the winner's permissions list details about the listener:
- Where he or she is from
- When he or she listens to NOA
- His or her answer to the cowbell question.
- Personal quote
Map
- Mike the Audio Guy is now experimenting at integrating [1] into the NOA site.
