Troubleshooting DNS

  1. To enable DNS debug on NetWare 6.5
    1. named.nlm -dl 10 -s
      1. this turns on debug level 10 and prints to the screen real time. See the /etc/dns for the log or sys:/named.run
  2. sometimes named will not read edirectory, and only reads the cache file in /etc/dns/NAMEofYourZONE.db. Sometimes you need to rename this file and have it re-read it from edirectory/NDS
  3. Windows Client
    1. ipconfig /flushDNS
